A union is a democratic organization made up of a majority of the employees working in a facility. The basic idea is that by joining together with fellow employees to form a union, workers have a greater ability through their strength in numbers to improve conditions at the worksite; they have greater bargaining power.
Unions used to be a big part of American business and have disappeared over the years. We have recently seen a union movement when over 70,000 grocery store union workers went on strike a couple of years ago. And, now there are talks that the teachers of the California State University system may go on strike next week. The teachers want a 25% increase in wages and only the union can help. Unions are good for America.
